Sechin

This is one of the oldest sites of Peru; it is estimated to date from 1600 B.C. It has been discovered by Julio C. Tello in 1937. The very good conservation state of those ruins makes this place a major touristic attraction in the region. The 3 main walls, 4 m high and 50 m large, are covered with bas-reliefs. They represent a multitude of warriors, war prisoners and human body parts like legs, bowels, arms or severed heads. An interior temple stands in the middle of these 3 walls, in which it is impossible to enter because the excavations still continue inside the place. Nevertheless, it is possible to have an overview of what is inside in the museum just next to the archaeological site.
